Holiday Traditions and Celebrations Around the Globe

The joys of the holiday season are endless! Whether it’s trading in the Christmas tree for a palm tree on an island in Africa or spending Christmas day in Switzerland listening to whimsical Christmas tales by the fireplace, our Collection Members are sure to make your holiday merry and bright. Read on to see holiday traditions and celebrations from JG Black Book!

The Stafford London

Deck the halls at The Stafford London! Located in the historic neighborhood of St. James, holiday traditions are plentiful here. Start the celebrations off with a stroll through the neighborhood and be in awe of the festively decorated cobblestone streets, all while sipping on warm mulled wine. Christmas Eve can be spent relaxing in front of the fireplace, indulging in sumptuous mince pie at The Game Bird with the humming of Christmas carols delicately playing in the background. On Christmas Day, enjoy a traditional roast-turkey feast followed by the annual Queen’s speech from her home of Buckingham Palace.

Giardino Mountain

The countdown to Christmas has begun in the magical land of Engadin! And this year, they’re celebrating some new holiday traditions. On Christmas Eve, festively creative dinners await at Giardino Mountain’s Hide & Seek, Ecco and Stuva restaurants. After dinner, spend the evening singing and dancing to the festive tunes provided by DJ Elisa and her harpist. Christmas Day is sure to be a magical affair thanks to a special Christmas reading from a famous German actress, Iris Berben. Curl up next to the roaring fireplace and be lulled into a state of holiday bliss as she reads excerpts from her book, “Eilige Nacht – Some Other Christmas Stories”.

Elewana Collection

This holiday season, leave the cold blustery days behind and wake up under the warm African sun with the Elewana Collection. Christmas morning will begin with an adventure at Elewana Elephant Pepper Camp! Be on the lookout for the dramatic theater that nature can play out at a moment’s notice – like a heard of elephants, a pride of lions, or a tower of giraffes. After all that excitement, a bush breakfast awaits you and your family, offering a selection of fresh fruit, cereal and the irresistible cooked breakfast with all the trimmings! For a quieter time this festive season, make your way north to Elewana Elsa Kopje Meru, where an infinity pool, pure relaxation, and only the sounds of the wild await. Christmas night can be spent under the stars with a special candlelight dinner.

Global CommUnity

In Iceland, the best Christmas gift is a book – and it’s been that way for decades. This national tradition, also known as Jólabókaflóðið or “Christmas Book Flood,” dates back to post-World War II, and with Global CommUnity’s Iceland itinerary, you too can experience this literary holiday tradition.

Azura Retreats

All holiday traditions and celebrations involve family, friends and plenty of food and it’s no different for guests staying at any of Azura Retreat’s three properties. At Azura Benguerra Island and Azura Quilalea Private Island, beach barbecues have become a tradition and remain a firm favorite with guests. Imagine lobsters, prawns and the freshest fish being grilled on an open flame. At night, dine right on the beach with panoramic sea views and an ice cold glass of your favorite beverage. This meal truly makes for the perfect island holiday experience! At Azura Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania, the bush replaces the beach but the generous helpings and spirit of the season remain the same. Despite being located in the vast wilderness, Azura’s team regularly produces impressive feasts. Spending the holidays in an exotic location may mean you have to swap your Christmas tree for a palm tree, but it doesn’t mean you have to forego the true spirit of the season – especially when you choose to spend your holidays in Africa with Azura.
