Heritage Tours, a leader in custom-designed private travel unveils its own private encampment – Thaalab Sahara – located in the northwestern region of the Sahara Desert near the village of Merzouga and the legendary dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Named after the Sub-Saharan desert fox, Thaalab Sahara is an intimate and private encampment designed for the exclusive use of Heritage Tours’ clients. Featuring three en-suite sleeping tents and a communal dining tent, the private encampment hosts groups of six and under, providing the ultimate off-the-grid experience for travelers venturing to the legendary desert of Morocco. Heritage Tours’ Thaalab Sahara was created to offer guests an authentic desert camp experience while still providing elevated service, comfort, and cuisine. The private encampment invites guests to immerse themselves in the unbounded beauty of a lesser-known part of the northwestern Sahara Desert.
“By introducing Thaalab Sahara we offer clients a special experience within Sahara’s orange dunes in a location less traveled and far from other encampments,” says Joel Zack, Founder of Heritage Tours. “We recapture the romance and bring the realness of the desert exclusively to you and your party.”
Thaalab Sahara’s three en-suite tents, carefully appointed by Heritage Tours’ founder Joel Zack, take inspiration from traditional Arabic design with colorful elements and incorporating hand-picked and locally-sourced materials. Traditional Berber Moroccan design coupled with modern touches adorn each tent with the use of rich embroidered drapes and rugs, custom-designed ceramics, tableware from Fez and plush king-sized beds decorated with authentic Moroccan throws.
In the heart of Sub-Saharan desert, Thaalab Sahara’s remote location is approximately a seven-hour drive from Fez or a two-day drive from Marrakech with an overnight in Skoura or Ouarzazate. The journey itself is part of the magical experience. During the expert-guided scenic drive to the camp, travelers will make stops at local towns to experience the beauty and wanderlust of the North African kingdom. After watching the sunset from the top of the dunes, guests are invited to either ride sandboards or camels back down to Thaalab Sahara for cocktails and a traditional Berber dinner complete with steaming tagines and a roaring fire.
“What makes this specific location so unique is that it is an undiscovered area of the desert and you truly get an experience that is private and exclusive to you,” shares Mike Korn, Senior Manager at Heritage Tours. “We’re thrilled to introduce clients to our Thaalab Sahara encampment and create a magical experience where people can connect with the surrounding beauty and serenity of the desert.”
Heritage Tours’ Thaalab Sahara is available for stays between September 15 and June 15, which are also the recommended travel months to Morocco.
