Overlooking the primeval Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Volcanoes Safaris Bwindi Lodge offers a truly unique Uganda jungle safari experience.

The lodge boasts eight glass-fronted bandas facing the forest canopy, each with a private terrace from which you can spot wildlife — including mountain gorillas — and monkeys jumping from tree to tree mere meters away. If you’re supremely lucky, you might even spot one of the Bwindi chimpanzees. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and luxury comforts are all provided in eco-sensitive ways. Enjoy lunch or a sundowner on the terrace overlooking the forest, and end the day in front of a cozy fireside bar and lounge in the main building, offering the chance for you to relax while sharing stories of your gorilla-tracking experience with other guests.

Journey into the misty forests of Africa and enjoy privileged insights into the fascinating world of the great apes with Volcanoes Safaris. Specializing in mountain gorilla and chimpanzee safaris in Uganda and Rwanda, this award-winning pioneer in ecotourism ensures that safaris respect the culture of local communities, the fragility of the environment and the need to use resources in a sustainable way. Led by outstanding guides and staying at intimate lodges near the gorilla and chimpanzee parks, guests are assured a truly unforgettable experience with Volcanoes Safaris.

Named individually for Bwindi gorillas, the eight plaster and timber glass-fronted guest bandas (cottages) at Bwindi Lodge reflect the local building style and blend seamlessly into the jungle environment. Each banda is equipped with an en-suite shower room, with solar-heated hot and cold running water. There is no air conditioning, yet power sockets and charging facilities are available in the main lodge’s building. Mosquito netting and 240-volt lighting make for a comfortable ambience. Each banda has a private balcony affording spectacular views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Guests gather in the lodge’s main living area, with its central fireplace, a convivial spot to relax and share gorilla-tracking experiences. From the terrace here, one can spot monkeys and birds in the forest beyond. The main lodge also offers WiFi and charging stations. A fully stocked gift shop, spa room where each guest may receive one complimentary massage and free laundry service are also available.

Gorilla tracking is the main event here, but days may also include waterfall walks, trekking along the Munyanga River Trail, hiking Rushurra Hill and the Border Trail, walking the Muzabajirro Loop Trail, touring nearby tea plantations, visiting the Bwindi community and hospital and visiting the VSPT Bwindi Bar.

Guests receive full-board accommodation, including all meals, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. Meals are served communal style to encourage the sharing of stories from the jungle and boast locally inspired dishes and wines and spirits from around the world. A real must is a visit to the award-winning Bwindi Bar, in the nearby village’s high street – the most stylish and colorful meeting spot in the area. The bar offers local and international food and drinks, including the “Rolex,” Uganda’s special wrap. The bar is run by Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust and was founded to train disadvantaged local youth in hospitality.

Bwindi Lodge is a one-hour flight from Entebbe International Airport; a two-hour drive from Kihiki Airstrip; a six-hour drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge through Queen Elizabeth National Park; and a 15-minute flight from Mount Gahinga Lodge.
