In the wilds of Lapland in northern Finland, marked by vast lakes and massive forests, lies Saariselkä – gateway to the trails and adventures in mountainous Urho Kekkonen National Park.

It was here that the park’s namesake president (the longest-serving in Finland) escaped with those closest to him, as well as royalty and world leaders, to feel the tangible presence of nature, to glimpse the Northern Lights, to hibernate in winter’s cold and darkness and to awaken once more in the never-setting sun as summer replaces winter.

Today, this retreat is Jávri Lodge, Lapland’s most luxurious boutique hotel, open to just 26 fortunate guests at a time. There’s a lingering presidential spirit of hospitality and tradition, gracious concierge service to ensure one-of-a-kind guest stays and a commitment to sharing personalized experiences that showcase the region’s stunning natural beauty and undeniable charm. Guests 18 and older savor the quiet purity of nature that the pristine setting provides, local delicacies and all the outdoor activities one might expect in the Nordic great outdoors. At the center of it all, the traditional Lappish-style chalet is a tranquil, aesthetically pleasing retreat here in an arctic wonderland, guaranteed to rejuvenate the soul and form an everlasting appreciation for nature’s bounty.

Jávri Lodge welcomes adults 18 and over into 13 Lappish-style accommodations – 6 Cozy Doubles, 3 Presidential Suites and 4 SkyView Suites. Natural materials such as oak, leather, wool and lambskin adorn the rooms and represent Scandinavian design aesthetics. The doubles and Presidential suites feature original log walls and sophisticated wooden furnishings, while the upstairs SkyView Suites boast floor-to-ceiling windows that gaze out at a never-ending natural paradise.

A unique and personalized guest experience is top of mind for Jávri Lodge’s staff and to this end, concierge service is always available to arrange unforgettable nature activities throughout Lapland. Summertime and private bookings include breakfast and dinner, with the option to embark on organized adventures; winter season stays include all meals, and one guided two-hour activity per night. The lodge itself is intended to be a world-class lodge-away-from-home with its lounge area, inviting fireplace, well-stocked wine cellar, indoor pool, two saunas, massage services and more.

Guests venture out from the lodge in groups of up to 10 – ensuring a convivial and intimate ambience – for a variety of impeccably organized activities. Blanketed by powdery, brilliantly white snow, wintertime Lapland is an outdoor lover’s dream, with opportunities for reindeer and husky safaris, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, the rejuvenating combination of sauna and ice swimming and exploring the wilderness in search of the Northern Lights. Come summer, the daylight hours are long, allowing for ample adventure. Forage for berries and mushrooms in forests and swamps, hike in Finland’s second-largest national park, get to know the Samis of Inari Village, the only indigenous people living in the European Union.

When one’s days are spent exploring Mother Nature’s bounty some 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, it’s only fitting that meals be as hearty and sustaining as possible. And while Jávri Lodge’s culinary team will ensure that you’re satiated, it also promises an exceptional menu, inspired by his imagination and pure local ingredients provided by trusted and reliable gatherers, fishermen and hunters. Dinner is a five- to seven-course extravaganza, showcasing fish from nearby lakes, matsutake and other local mushrooms, berries and other local organic delicacies. There’s matsutake gnocchi and king crab tortellini with leek soup one night; reindeer tartar, lamb filet and cloudberry sorbet another. Dining is always a tasty surprise, depending on the season and what’s available and otherwise only limited by the chefs’ imagination.

Jávri Lodge is located in Saariselkä, less than 30 minutes from Ivalo (IVL) airport and approximately 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in the heart of Finnish Lapland. The Urho Kekkonen National Park is nearby, the second-largest protected natural park in Finland.
