Exuding a laid-back ambience, charismatic design and esteemed level of service, Giardino Ascona is a retreat for the soul in Ticino, the Italian region of Switzerland.

Here, one can breathe, relax, stroll, move, marvel and enjoy the finer things in life, as well as Michelin-starred dining, mind and body Ayurvedic spa treatments and cures and the outdoor pursuits for which the area is known. It’s a place to step back and take a moment, to fully unwind and savor the Mediterranean joie de vivre. Nestled in verdant parkland close to Lake Maggiore, the lush grounds and large garden are scented by lavender, lemon trees and olives trees.

While Giardino Ascona’s accommodations vary in size, all 53 guest rooms and 16 suites are outfitted with a light and airy Mediterranean design, earth tones, distinctive parquet flooring, colorful fabrics and well-chosen furnishings. All are located in Tuscan-style villas and each features a terrace or balcony overlooking the Mediterranean-style garden or the Ticino mountains.

To ensure a most comfortable stay, Giardino Ascona has outfitted its guest rooms and suites with air-conditioning, modern entertainment systems, WiFi, dipiù cosmetics spa body products, bathrooms and slippers, mineral water and fruit and a tub and shower. Suites offer an espresso machine, as well. Guests are treated to a breakfast buffet each morning and have access to an indoor and outdoor pool, the dipiù Spa, sauna, Jacuzzi, fitness center, hair salon and more. Children up to age 6 stay free in their parents’ room. Pickup service is available from and to the Locarno train station.

Days glitter at Giardino Ascona, where daily wine tastings, complimentary bicycles for touring the area, Ayurvedic spa treatments and more await. The Ayurvedic program is a shining star, with cures and treatments, consultations, yoga and meditation opportunities. At the lake, there’s swimming, paddleboarding, jogging, biking and boating, while at the mountainside, there are ample opportunities for hiking and biking, even paragliding. Staying in town? There’s shopping, concerts, nightlife, art exhibitions and museums to explore. Children are thrilled to spend indoor and outdoor time at the Dino Club, just for them. Golf is right next door, with private access to the course.

Fresh air makes for hearty appetites, and Giardino Ascona’s two eateries are happy to provide. Hide & Seek is a casual, contemporary setting for international fusion cuisine based on ayurvedic principles, where salty, sweet, bitter, sour, spicy and tart components meet in a harmonious union with local herbs and invigorating spices. For fine dining, Ristorante Ecco can’t be beat – it has been award two Michelin stars and 17 Gault Millau points for its exceptional, aromatic cuisine crafted by Executive Chef Rolf Fliegauf. Later, listen to the soft sounds of jazz at the bar. In summer, the pool bar is an easy-going locale for antipasti and salad, a bit of grilled fish or meat, fresh fruit and homemade gelati.

Giardino Ascona is located a 40-minute drive from the Lugano Airport and an 90-minute drive from the Milan Airport. Guests may also arrive into Zurich main train station or airport, with longer drives to the hotel. The hotel is also located on Switzerland Tourism’s “Grand Tour of Switzerland.”
