Recognizing the value of time well spent with family and friends, the Elewana Collection introduces discerning travelers to East Africa through impeccably designed lodges that invite the thrill of a real adventure in truly relaxing locations.

Complementing camps and lodges in prime game-viewing areas, on quiet white-sand beaches or even in a coffee plantation, are lavish creature comforts, including fresh cotton sheets, elegant rooms and gourmet meals. Family-friendly, individually styled and exuding warm and personalized hospitality, the lodges are a savvy blend of high-class safari and low-impact tourism. Guests are encouraged to become part of the local community and conservation projects, and thereby returning home with a piece of East Africa instilled in their hearts forever.

Elewana’s Loisaba Star Beds, Africa’s original sleep out, boast the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sleep in luxury under Africa’s night sky. Handcrafted, four-poster wooden beds are rolled out each night for sweeping views over the undulating valley, the great Ewaso Nyiro River, a permanent waterhole frequented by wildlife and, above, an endless quilt of twinkling stars.

Accommodations

Each star bed at Loisaba has been individually crafted in harmony with the camp’s natural rocky features and includes a sitting area and open-plan bathroom with a view – there are three en-suite double rooms and one family room with two double beds. By night, the four-poster beds, on raised wooden platforms jutting out from under a thatched roof, are rolled out for a starry slumber. Each open-to-the-air bathroom features a plumbed shower with piping-hot solar-heated water, a basin and a flush toilet.

Amenities

Loisaba guests are warmly welcomed by a team of traditional Samburu and Laikipiak Maasai warriors, who host with their customary warm African hospitality. Here, in a region renowned for its beautiful landscape and abundant wildlife, visitors have the opportunity to sleep under a starry sky undisturbed by light pollution, enjoy some of the most exclusive safari experiences in East Africa and savor the quiet luxury of thoughtful creature comforts, from 24-hour power and in-room charging facilities, WiFi, children’s menus, a private airstrip and daily schedule flights, custom 4×4 game vehicles and more.

Activities

After falling asleep to a sparkling night sky, guests may rise with the sun in their Star Bed, a comforting warm beverage in hand and a day ahead of promising adventures. The Loisaba conservancy is one of the best places to spot wild dogs and an important elephant haven (Laikipia has the second largest population of elephant in Kenya). Go lion tracking, horseback and camel riding, mountain biking, fishing, on night game drives and more, seeking greater kuku, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx and other local wildlife. The littlest guests may try their hand at warrior training, learn how to make a fire and throw a spear, embark on guided bush walks around camp, visit anti-poaching sniffer dogs, visit a Samburu village and more.

Dining

Shared dining with other Loisaba guests is always encouraged, adding to a convivial safari ambience. A daily set menu can be tailored to meet individual dietary requirements, and private dinners may be arranged upon request. Game drives include picnic breakfasts and lunches. At day’s end, gather for sundowners and premium wines and regale new friends with tall tales of the African bush over a delicious dinner. A children’s menu is available.

Location

Loisaba Star Beds is a 15-minute drive from Loisaba airstrip, which is a one-hour flight from Wilson Airport. The camp coordinates are 0˚37’54.8”N 36˚50’45.5” E and it is located in the Loisaba Private Conservancy in Laikipia.
