Set within the tranquil grounds of the Burka Coffee Estate, Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge is ideally located your launching pad for exploring Tanzania’s Serengeti, Manyara, Ngorongoro and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Recognizing the value of time well spent with family and friends, the Elewana Collection introduces discerning travelers to East Africa through impeccably designed lodges that invite true relaxation, as well as the thrill of a real adventure. Complementing their locations in prime game-viewing areas, on quiet white-sand beaches or even in a coffee plantation, are lavish comforts, including fresh cotton sheets, elegant rooms and gourmet meals. Family-friendly, individually styled and exuding warm and personalized hospitality, the lodges are a savvy blend of high-class safari and low-impact tourism. Guests are encouraged to become part of the local community and conservation projects, thereby returning home with a piece of East Africa instilled in their hearts forever.

Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge offers 30 Plantation Houses, comprised of 18 Plantation Suites, with en suite facilities, flat-screen televisions with satellite service, private sun terraces with log fireplaces, verandahs, mini bars and a personal room attendant; and 12 Plantation Rooms, also en suite, with a verandah and in-room log fireplace. Reminiscent of the region’s traditional plantation houses from the exterior, the accommodations within are certainly modern and spacious enough to wow even the most veteran traveler. There’s an African warmth, coupled with the familiarity and security of a western-style hotel.

Split-level lounge areas throughout the estate invite relaxation, as one takes in a lush vista of berry-laden coffee bushes. Free WiFi is available in all accommodations, and there is a gourmet restaurant, a wood-fired pizza oven and an all-day bistro and bar. A swimming pool is on the grounds, and laundry service and children’s activities are available.

The main attraction here is the coffee tours, when guests are shown the process that brings a coffee bean from tree to cup – and of course, tasting the farm’s coffee blends. Shoppers enjoy the Trader’s Walk Boutiques, a collection of five on-site shops. Guests are also encouraged to visit the Shanga Workshop, run by physically disadvantaged Tanzanians who make their living producing beautiful arts and crafts, including the upcycling of glass bottles into beads and glassware. The Tanzanite Centre is a must, for a chance to see this remarkable precious stone of deep blue and violet, said to be a thousand times rarer than diamonds. The lodge also offers massage and spa treatments, swimming, bird watching, day trips to Arusha National Park or Mt. Meru with a picnic lunch, golfing at Kiligolf, visits to the Masai markets and more. Children’s activities include swimming, playground time and a build-your-own pizza experience in the outdoor oven.

Each morning, a full buffet breakfast, continental breakfast or an a la carte menu is available. Mid-day brings a delicious four-course luncheon buffet in the Lodge’s gardens. The Grill Room is for discerning palates, who appreciate the chef’s homage to international culinary techniques and use of fresh, locally sourced produce, all complemented by an excellent wine list. And any time of day or night, The Bistro is available with hot-from-the-oven pizza, cocktails, crisp salads, home-baked cakes and, of course, hot coffee from locally grown beans. Located at the Trader’s Walk, Jikoni, an open-air dining experience that requires advance reservation, provides a glimpse of Swahili culture, cuisine and music.

Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge lies on the western edge of Arusha town and is a 10-minute drive from the Arusha airport and a 90-minute drive from the Kilimanjaro International Airport. The lodge coordinates are S3˚22’28” E36˚38’37”. Climbing routes for Mt. Kilimanjaro begin nearby, making this a good base for starting the ascent.
