Welcome to our first newsletter for the S.A.F.E. Campaign — a new travel industry initiative from The Bodhi Tree Foundation. The S.A.F.E. Campaign aims to galvanize and unite the travel industry and travelers to raise awareness about the current plight of Africa's elephants and the impact poaching and the ivory trade has on the future of tourism in Africa.

INTRODUCTION
With over 35,000 elephants killed annually for their ivory, the elephant population in Africa has been depleted by 90% in the last 50 years alone. Time is running out for this keystone species - at the current rate of poaching, elephants may be wiped off this planet by 2025!

Most African countries depend on tourism as their main source of income -without wildlife to see there will be no tourists. The travel industry, which has so much vested in Africa's wildlife and already acts as a global reference point for millions of travelers, can help stop the poaching of Africa's elephants if we act together NOW.
