Quintessentially British, steeped in history and delightfully quirky in character, The Stafford London is one of the last remaining bastions of Great British hospitality. From the 380-year old wine cellar with corridors leading to St. James’s Palace, to the charming accommodations and unparalleled dining experiences, The Stafford is one of the most sophisticated hotels in the Capital.

A recent multi-million pound redesign, led by internationally renowned designer, Alexandra Champalimaud, offers a beautiful combination of the highest hospitality standards with the innovation and tradition of the very best lodging London has to offer. Located in the prestigious St. James’s area of London, The Stafford is a uniquely personalized, boutique hotel that boasts five-star luxury, 24-hour service and the finest contemporary elegance and stately amenities to make your stay truly a “home away from home” experience.

Accommodations

Originally built as private residences in the 17th century, The Stafford opened as a hotel in 1912. Today The Stafford offers 107 rooms and suites, including the elegant Main House, the all-suite Stafford Mews building, and the newly redesigned Carriage House and The Gatehouse Suite. The Main House blends Victorian grandeur with modern comfort – each room and suite distinct in fabrics, furniture and artwork – while The Mews Suites’ contemporary interiors delightfully contrast with their tranquil setting.

Detached from the main hotel and located within the historic 380-year-old Grade II listed building, which was once the former stables of British nobleman and politician, Lord Francis Godolphin, The Carriage House rooms and suites deliver a stylish and exclusive retreat, offering guests classic elegance overlooking a quiet, cobbled courtyard set in the heart of one of London’s most magnificent neighborhoods.

The Gatehouse Suite is truly your private residence while in London, offering three floors of unparalleled luxury. Enter via a private entrance into a spacious, open-plan living and dining room decorated with a stunning mix of contemporary artwork, fine craftsmanship and eclectic touches, optimizing the feeling of space and providing a sense of a home away from home. The two generously sized bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms complete the feeling of true luxury. The Gatehouse can be booked as a one-bedroom Junior Suite, a two-story one-bedroom suite or as the full two-bedroom, three-story townhouse.

Amenities

Drawing inspiration from the cheerful character and originality that celebrates the suites’ rich and historic heritage, the focal point of each room is the oversized headboards, completed with hand-crafted fabric, and the brush-stroke textured wall coverings behind them. A number of suites feature fireplaces, romantic four-poster beds, as well as significant timbers from wrecked ‘Man O’ War’ fighting ships. Bespoke bathrooms are complimented with various luxury touches including heated towel racks and fine English toiletries created exclusively for The Stafford. Guests will relish in the extensive array of perks, including free Wifi, Nespresso machines, flat screen TVs, complimentary gym use, a world-class concierge team and private event and meeting spaces.

Activities

London is a global hub, and the concierge at The Stafford will go above and beyond to make sure your stay is memorable. Whether it is hitting the classic “must-see” list, like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London, or getting more local by seeking out a uniquely British pub or a hidden gallery in Mayfair, The Stafford is ready to help you find whatever you’d like to discover in London.

Dining

The Game Bird is simultaneously relaxed and sociable while maintaining a focus on modern British style and class. The cuisine is dedicated to following the seasonal produce from award-winning family owned farms, and combining local uncomplicated excellence with time-honored British standards. The ambiance is reminiscent of a private members club while the Champagne Bar is the ideal spot for a chilled glass of bubbly before dinner. The Stafford also offers The American Bar, one of the most unparalleled cocktail bars in London, which also serves a light breakfast and lunch in the private cobbled courtyard and dinner until 11 PM. Stories abound of clandestine meetings of World War II spies at this infamous haunt.

Location

Arguably one of London’s most prestigious addresses, The Stafford is unsurpassed when it comes to location. Just a short 45-minute transport from Heathrow Airport, everything is accessible, and yet the privacy and serenity are unmistakable. Buckingham Palace is just around the corner, and the hotel is in close proximity to a variety of shops, museums, galleries and dining options.
