Unrivalled luxury is just one of the reasons that Micato has been named “World’s Best Tour Operator and Safari Outfitter” by Travel + Leisure magazine a record nine times. Safari lodges enchant with such extravagances as private plunge pools and personal butlers. Africa’s best safari guides educate and amuse, their conversation as refreshing as the drinks they mix, while a wealth of itineraries offer irresistible experiences from the celebrated savannahs of the Serengeti to the elegant delights of the Cape winelands and the ethereal beauty of the Kalahari.
Each lodge and camp is selected as much for its evocative beauty as for its breathtaking scenery. From the classic safari decadence of the tented camps to the elegantly appointed lodges, it’s difficult to reconcile such luxury with the bush setting. Picture it: secluded tents replete with gleaming antiques and mahogany four-poster beds, with private verandas overlooking watering holes full of wildlife; or spacious domed lodge rooms, lovingly kitted out in native wood and stone, with double-faced fireplaces for cool nights and private plunge pools for hot afternoons. There are even stunning views from the clawfooted bathtubs!
A safari with Micato is a sumptuous adventure, sparked by wanderlust and the lure of the exotic and authentic. The fact that these safaris surpass all expectations is not surprising, considering that Micato is the nine-time winner of Travel + Leisure magazine’s coveted “World’s Best Safari Outfitter” award. T+L states, “Micato’s edge is personal warmth. The Pinto family runs their show as though entertaining well-loved, out-of- town relatives.” Micato’s policy of eliminating all tipping on trips — even gratuities to tour guides, safari directors, and drivers — leaves guests with more time to savor their journeys. The Pinto’s insider access also makes impossibly exclusive experiences possible, whether it’s a private plane safari with renowned guide Mark C. Ross, dinner on the Presidential Estate in Cape Town, an archeological dig with the Leakeys, or running with Kenyan marathoners. It can all be arranged with ease. And it is not just travelers whose lives are changed — travelers visit children whose lives are changing for the better through AmericaShare, Micato’s nonprofit arm that sends AIDS-orphaned children to school through the generosity of visitors of the region. Spend a few hours at a project and sponsor a child. The child’s life — as well as yours — will never be the same.
Micato’s superb “Bespoke Collection” offers the option for travelers to custom-design their own safaris, with the guidance of an expert safari specialist. There are myriad choices: private ranches, upcountry estates and intimate camps — the owners are guests’ personal hosts. Intrepid travelers might consider Micato’s camel-back and walking safaris. And starbeds! Dreams are sure to be extraordinary when sleeping in safe seclusion beneath the sky. Family safaris are meticulously designed with an eye for every generation; idyllic honeymoons are crafted with love; private jet safaris are arranged for those on the cutting edge of luxe.
Micato even weaves epic adventures to farflung regions for those seeking total seclusion. A customized safari can be anything and everything you’ve ever dreamed. And Micato’s Bespoke team makes it even better …
More than 25 years ago, Micato Safaris established its award-winning nonprofit arm, AmericaShare, which has made a significant difference in the lives of impoverished African families by sending thousands of African children to school and providing sustained community outreach. Micato is the only tour operator to win five Condé Nast Traveler “World Savers” Awards, three for Education and two for Doing it All. Initiatives include their One for One Commitment: For every safari sold, they send a child to school. As stewards of Africa’s neediest families, they also operate a school sponsorship program for orphaned and vulnerable children, in addition to building libraries, classrooms, a life-changing freshwater well and establishing other dynamic projects.
Micato invites each traveler to be a part of the family — it’s a pleasure and a hallmark. East African travelers are all invited for a meal at the home of the Pintos in Nairobi, while travelers in Southern Africa dine with the Pintos’ good friends in Cape Town. Indeed, a Micato safari is exceptionally personalized in all of their areas of expertise: Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Rwanda and Zambia’s Victoria Falls.
