Leeu Estates Specialist
Three remarkable and historic farms have joined together to offer a stylish, exclusive getaway where every attention is paid to discreet service, individualized experiences and exceptional food and wine pairings. Set on 68 pastoral hectares between Dassenberg mountain and Franschhoek river, Leeu Estates offers organic dining, an Asian holistic wellness sanctuary, The Spa at Leeu Estates and beautiful nature trails. It is a striking example of understated elegance in a most glorious setting.
This working wine farm offers 17 individually styled guest rooms and suites, each with carefully chosen architectural details and furnishings and thoughtfully curated artwork. Many of the rooms boast a private terrace and fireplace, and given the picturesque setting, all afford magnificent vineyard and mountain views. The crowning touch just may be the exquisite marble bathrooms, with freestanding Victorian claw-footed soaking tubs, rain showers, underfloor heating and custom-blended bath and shower amenities. Rooms are located within the Manor House, The Spa at Leeu Estates and five spacious cottages.
Within the vast Leeu Estates, and its 19th-century Manor House, guests may relax in the grand drawing room, dining room, library, wine cellar and spacious terrace where discreet and attentive service caters to every mood and need. The Living Room is stocked with the Estates’ own wines and local Cape brews and spirits; the Library offers a collection of games and books to be enjoyed alongside afternoon tea; and The Spa at Leeu Estates – a destination unto itself – provides Asian-inspired massages and holistic treatments in a warm, timbered ambiance. Guests also have access, via complimentary shuttle, to the amenities of sister properties, Leeu House and Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek Village.
With the renowned Franschhoek wine valley surrounding the estate, most guests strike out on as many wine-tasting excursions as possible. Leeu Estates’ own winemaking facility and sleek tasting venue are just a short stroll from the Manor House, where one can meet award-winning husband-and-wife team Chris and Andrea Mullineaux. When not sipping fine vintages, there’s always walking, jogging, cycling, yoga, spa treatments and fine cuisine to enjoy at the Dining Room, next to a roaring fire or on the Garden Terrace.
Innovative and locally sourced cuisine takes center stage in Leeu Estates’ Dining Room, headed by resident chef Oliver Cattermole. Breakfast is served until noon and small plates meant for sharing showcase the finest South African bounty of produce infused with vibrant world flavors. Needless to say, all meals are paired with the finest local wines. Guests may dine in the romantic Dining Room, next to a cozy fire, or choose to take their meals alfresco on the Garden Terrace.
Leeu Estates is located in Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa. The hotel is most easily accessed via Cape Town International Airport, a 50-minute drive away. Cape Town is 55 minutes away by car and Franschhoek Village is a 5-minute drive. For those wanting to travel by helicopter, there is a helipad on site.
