explora Atacama serves as a welcoming home base as you take in the mysterious beauty of the Atacama Desert, which runs high into the Andes of Chile on the Pacific side of South America.

Whether you decide to explore the breathtaking volcanoes and mountains by foot or horseback, or learn about the traditions and folklore of the local villages, you’ll be irrevocably changed after connecting with the profound power of this privileged and remote area.

explora Atacama is a hacienda-like lodge located in the town of San Pedro, an oasis 8,000 feet above sea level in the highest and driest desert on Earth. The award-winning architecture features corridors opening onto patios that hover over dramatic views of volcanoes. The 50 luxury rooms, Jacuzzis and modern conveniences make it a most hospitable refuge and base for daily explorations. Children under 12 years old can be accommodated in their parents’ room.

Choose from 8-10 outing options daily:

explora Atacama is an all-inclusive experience, providing guests with guided explorations, gourmet food and most importantly, unique moments shared with the staff and the local people. Explorations in Atacama allow guests to become acquainted with the multiple aspects of this region: its geography, history, fauna, geological features, volcanoes and ancient villages. Explorations have been designed to allow for gradual acclimatization to the altitude. Each day explora guests can join a variety of activities, including walking, horseback riding or biking, that have been specifically selected based on the guest’s desires and abilities and the duration of the trip.

explora offers luxury based on details, supplying appropriate food for explorations, and food and wine to stir the senses at the lodge. Local products are mainly used and wines from Chile’s vineyards are served.

Since its origins, explora has always maintained its operations with sustainability, through an important relationship with the community and the environment. In recent years it has become more apparent that these areas deserve proper and sustainable care which has been channeled professionally by “Fundación explora,” an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to care for and promote the development of the natural and cultural heritage in the areas where explora operates. It promotes concrete initiatives that contribute towards conserving the nature, culture and development of local communities.
