azurabenguerra

An unspoiled island set within a Marine National Park, and with beaches of pure white sand that extends for miles kissed by gentle turquoise waves – this is paradise found at Azura Benguerra Island, Mozambique.

Here, every creature comfort awaits, fish and seafood comes fresh from the ocean and a welcoming Mozambican community introduces guests to a fantastic range of activities and experiences on one of the last undiscovered stretches of beach in the world. Snorkeling with kaleidoscopic fish, sinking into an indulgent al fresco massage and sipping cocktails under a star-studded sky – dreams become reality at Azura Benguerra Island.

Amenities

Exuding a hospitable and friendly Mozambican personality, Azura Benguerra Island prides itself on an authentic experience for all guests. Stays are customized according to guests’ wishes and preferences, allowing one to do as little or as much as one pleases. Azura’s dedication is in giving back to its community – in particular supporting community initiatives with its décor items – and invites guests to visit the islanders and school children as part of their lineup of activities. Through the Rainbow Fund, Azura was able to build a school for children, as well as the teachers’ housing blocks. They now have some 400 children in education on Benguerra Island, compared with just 40 when it started. Rainbow Fund is the first registered charity of its kind in Mozambique.

Activities

Languid days on a private island are already decidedly dreamy, yet Azura Benguerra Island has added to the mix with myriad guided experiences for its guests’ enjoyment, from world-class snorkeling to SCUBA diving with dolphins and sea turtles, from visiting local communities to island hopping by helicopter. Days here are as relaxed or as active as one wishes, and memories are made while dining in the wine cellar, enjoying a drink on a beachfront sala and relaxing into a massage in the African Spa.

Dining

Daybreak at Azura Benguerra may bring breakfast at the water’s edge, while mid-day, guests may find themselves treated to a full-service picnic on a remote sandy island. Later, the resort’s Mozambican hosts craft innovative dining experiences, perhaps beneath the stars in a candle-lit and pleasingly private stretch of beach. Meals are fresh and light, focusing on what is locally available. A fabulous wine cellar complements each meal, including the owner’s wines flow in from their chateau in France’s Loire Valley.
